CHAP Wraps Up the Semester with a Deep Dive into Jewish History

The Porterville College Cultural and Historical Awareness Program (CHAP) is proud to announce its final event of the Spring Semester. On April 21, 2026, distinguished historian Dr. David N. Myers will present a captivating exploration of one of history’s most enduring cultures in his discussion, "Who are the Jews? A Brief Journey into Jewish History."
The presentation will take place at 6:00 PM in the PC Forum.
How has a group of people, scattered across the globe and facing countless challenges, managed to survive and thrive for thousands of years? Dr. Myers will lead us through a brief journey into the heart of Jewish history. This is an exploration of resilience, identity, and the "improbable survival" of a culture that continues to shape our modern world.
Dr. Myers, a Distinguished Professor of History at UCLA and holder of the Sady and Ludwig Kahn Chair in Jewish History, is a world-renowned scholar and author of Jewish History: A Very Short Introduction. He focuses on the improbable survival of the Jewish people over millennia, examining the core themes and developments that have shaped their long and often misunderstood history.
The Cultural and Historical Awareness Program (CHAP) at Porterville College is dedicated to promoting a better understanding of the diverse human experience through cultural and historical events, lectures, and activities.
